Yeu Island, the jewel of the Atlantic

Just 17 km off the Vendée coast, Yeu is the most remote island on France’s Atlantic coast. Within its 23 km² of landmass, theisland of Yeu boasts a wide variety of landscapes: long beaches and coastal dunes, a wild coastline with towering cliffs enclosing sandy coves, heathlands with short grass, sunken paths criss-crossing the valleys, and hedged farmland with its many plots of land.

- the village of Port Joinville, the island’s main village and fishing port
- Port de la Meule, a small fishing port with the Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle chapel, Pointe des Corbeaux to the south-east (a wild coastline reminiscent of the Celtic lands of Brittany), Pointe du But to the north-west and its magnificent viewpoint.

Long the leading tuna port on the Atlantic coast, the island of Yeu still plays an active role in the fishing industry, unloading sea bass, burbot, sole, turbot, sea bream, hake and other noble crustaceans on the quays of Port Joinville.
