To preserve resources, minimum size and quantity are required for shellfish. Those that do not reach the required size are put back in the water immediately. Some of the best shellfishing spots in Vendée:
- Clams and cockles lurk near the Gois on the way to Noirmoutier (a famous passage on this submersible route).
- Grey shrimp on the beaches of Les Demoiselles and La Bergère

Freshwater fishing
Freshwater fishing is popular with holidaymakers, all year round in the marshes’ étiers (subject to regulations) or the Soullans pond. In Notre-Dame-de-Monts (route du Fief Noumois), a specially adapted pontoon has been built to ensure that fishing remains a leisure activity accessible to as many people as possible. A yearly, daily or weekly fishing licence is required to enjoy this activity. Pike, pike-perch, black-bass and fario trout have nothing to fear!
