Once upon a time, there was the Bourrine du bois Juquaud<\/h2>

La bourrine de Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez<\/strong> is the actual home of several market gardening families grouped together in this late 19th century farm. <\/p>

Still intact, it comprises the bourrine, the living quarters of the period, still furnished, and numerous outbuildings: the barn, the dairy, the henhouse, the shed, etc. Built in 1818, the bourrine<\/strong> was bequeathed to the Gandemer<\/strong> family in the early 20th century. Armandine Gandemer<\/strong>, its last occupant, left the premises in 1967. <\/p>

The town of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez<\/strong>, which then became the owner of the site, began restoring it in the 1980s. Every year, during your stay at the Saint-Jean-de-Monts campsite<\/g>, take advantage of the many events organized in partnership with the volunteers of the Amis du Bois Juquaud<\/g>. Located on the edge of the Poitevin marshes<\/strong>, not far from the ancient dune belt of Les Mattes, the Bourrine du Bois Juquaud<\/strong> bears witness to the traditional life of the marshes at the beginning of the last century. <\/p>

La Bourrine<\/strong> is one of the last authentic dwellings made of earth and covered with reeds<\/strong>. Just like in the old days, when the inhabitants lived in harmony with nature. <\/p>

In 2000, the Bois Juquaud<\/strong> was classified as a “sensitive natural area”<\/strong> by the Conseil G\u00e9n\u00e9ral, to preserve its flora and fauna. Reconstructed identically, thanks to testimonials, the Bourrine<\/g> and the entire site were awarded the Mus\u00e9e de France<\/g> label in 2004.
